Description
The UHF Male to UHF Male adapter is a rugged “in-series” coupler used to bridge two female UHF interfaces. Unlike precision microwave connectors, the UHF interface (originally designed for “Ultra High Frequency” in the 1930s) features a large, easy-to-grip threaded coupling. While it is not constant impedance, it remains the most popular choice for high-power HF (High Frequency) and VHF radio setups due to its mechanical strength and ability to handle high voltage.
These adapters are typically machined from Nickel-plated Brass to resist corrosion. The internal center contacts are often Silver-plated or Gold-plated to maintain low contact resistance. Featuring PTFE (Teflon) or Bakelite dielectrics, they provide excellent insulation. They are ideal for connecting heavy-duty coaxial cables (like RG-8 or LMR-400) directly to antenna tuners, amplifiers, or wattmeters.
Key Technical Advantages
-
Rugged Mechanical Link: The large threaded shells provide a very strong physical connection that can support the weight of heavy coaxial cables.
-
High Power Handling: Due to its large physical size and thick center pin, it can handle significantly more power (often several kilowatts at HF) than smaller connectors like SMA or BNC.
-
Easy Tool-Free Installation: The knurled outer coupling allows for secure hand-tightening, making it perfect for mobile rigs or temporary field setups.
-
Universal Compatibility: Fits any standard SO-239 female jack, found on almost every piece of amateur radio and CB equipment produced in the last 80 years.
