Description
RG-218 Coaxial Cable
RG-218 is one of the largest and most robust cables in the standard RG series, designed for 50 Ohm systems that operate at extreme power levels. It is significantly thicker than RG-213 or RG-214, with an outer diameter of approximately 22mm. The cable features a massive solid bare copper center conductor (approximately 5mm in diameter), which allows for the transmission of massive RF currents with minimal heat buildup and exceptionally low attenuation.
The construction includes a thick, solid polyethylene (PE) dielectric to maintain high voltage insulation, and a high-density bare copper braided shield for superior RF grounding and isolation. Encased in a heavy-duty non-contaminating Black PVC jacket, RG-218 is built to withstand extreme mechanical stress, UV exposure, and harsh environmental conditions. Due to its size and rigidity, it is typically used in permanent installations for high-power broadcast towers and industrial RF systems. It is most commonly terminated with large-format connectors such as 7/16 DIN or specialized N-Type connectors.
Key Technical Advantages
-
Massive Power Capacity: Capable of handling several kilowatts of continuous RF power, making it the premier choice for high-power broadcast and industrial applications.
-
Ultra-Low Attenuation: The massive conductor size ensures the lowest possible signal loss over long distances, maximizing system efficiency.
-
High Voltage Rating: The thick dielectric layer allows the cable to safely operate at high peak voltages without risk of arcing or breakdown.
-
Non-Contaminating Jacket: The Type IIA PVC jacket resists environmental degradation and prevents plasticizer migration, ensuring a multi-decade operational lifespan.
-
Exceptional Ruggedness: Designed for high mechanical durability, it is resistant to crushing and environmental wear in demanding industrial or maritime settings.
