Description
RG-6 (Radio Guide 6) is a high-specification coaxial cable designed to carry high-frequency electrical signals with low loss. It features a larger center conductor and thicker dielectric insulation than older RG-59 cables, allowing it to support the high-frequency requirements of modern digital HDTV, CATV, and broadband internet services. The cable is constructed with a solid or copper-clad steel (CCS) center conductor, surrounded by a foam polyethylene dielectric and a multi-layered shielding system (typically foil and braid) to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).
The robust shielded construction of RG-6 ensures signal integrity over longer distances, making it ideal for runs from a roof-mounted antenna or satellite dish into the home. It is compatible with standard F-type, BNC, and RCA compression or crimp-on connectors. Available in various jacket types, including CM/CL2 for in-wall use and PE for outdoor/direct burial applications, it provides long-term durability in diverse environmental conditions.
Key Technical Advantages
-
Superior High-Frequency Performance: Optimized to handle frequencies up to 3GHz, making it perfect for modern satellite and digital cable signals.
-
Low Signal Attenuation: The larger conductor size significantly reduces signal loss (decibel drop) over long cable runs compared to thinner coaxial variants.
-
High-Efficiency Shielding: Dual or Quad-shielding options provide maximum protection against interference from household electronics and cellular signals.
-
Durability and Strength: The robust outer jacket and internal structure are designed to withstand pulling during installation and environmental exposure.
-
75 Ohm Standardized Impedance: Perfectly matched for audio/video equipment and telecommunications hardware to prevent signal reflections and ghosting.
