Description
RG-316 is a high-reliability, sub-miniature coaxial cable designed for 50 Ohm systems where space, weight, and environmental resilience are critical. It is widely considered the more rugged and heat-resistant alternative to RG-174. The cable features a stranded silver-plated copper-clad steel (SPCCS) center conductor, which provides the perfect balance of mechanical strength, high electrical conductivity, and flexibility for repeated movement.
The internal construction utilizes a high-stability PTFE (Teflon) dielectric, ensuring low signal loss and excellent phase stability into the microwave frequency range. To maintain signal integrity, it is equipped with a high-density silver-plated copper braided shield that offers superior RF isolation and corrosion resistance. Encased in a durable, tinted FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) jacket, RG-316 can operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -55°C to +200°C. Its combination of small size and high-performance materials makes it a preferred choice for 5G, military, and aerospace instrumentation. It is most commonly terminated with SMA, SMB, or MCX connectors.
Key Technical Advantages
-
Extreme Thermal Stability: The PTFE/FEP construction allows for reliable operation in high-heat industrial or aerospace environments without electrical degradation.
-
Vibration-Resistant Stranded Core: The stranded SPCCS conductor provides high fatigue resistance, making it ideal for mobile equipment and aerospace vibration.
-
High-Frequency Precision: Optimized for performance up to 3GHz and beyond, delivering stable impedance and low VSWR for microwave links.
-
Silver-Plated Components: Silver plating on both the conductor and the braid maximizes signal efficiency through the “skin effect” and ensures long-term resistance to oxidation.
-
Excellent Maneuverability: With an outer diameter of approximately 2.5mm and a tight bend radius, it is easily routed through congested electronic chassis.
