Description
RG-58 Cu (Copper) is the high-performance variant of the standard RG-58 family, characterized by its use of a pure copper braided shield and center conductor. Unlike budget versions that use alloy or aluminum, the “Cu” designation ensures maximum electrical conductivity and superior grounding. This makes it an essential component for 50 Ohm systems where signal loss must be minimized and signal purity is paramount.
The cable features a flexible 20 AWG stranded copper center conductor, which provides excellent fatigue resistance and signal stability under movement. Surrounded by a solid polyethylene (PE) dielectric and protected by a high-density copper braid, it offers exceptional shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI). Encased in a durable, flexible PVC jacket, the RG-58 Cu is designed for easy routing and long-term performance in both stationary and mobile RF environments. It is most frequently terminated with BNC, TNC, or PL-259 (UHF) connectors.
Key Technical Advantages
-
Maximum Conductivity: The pure copper construction ensures the lowest possible DC resistance for its size, enhancing signal transmission efficiency.
-
Superior Shielding Effectiveness: The high-density copper braid provides a superior RF return path and exceptional protection against external noise.
-
Enhanced Flexibility: Stranded copper internals allow for repeated bending and vibration without work-hardening or signal degradation, ideal for vehicle and marine use.
-
Excellent Solderability: Pure copper components allow for faster, more reliable connector termination compared to alloy or aluminum-clad alternatives.
-
Stable RF Performance: Maintains consistent impedance across the VHF and UHF spectrum, ensuring low VSWR and protecting sensitive transceivers.
