Description
RG-142 is a specialized, high-reliability coaxial cable designed for demanding RF applications. It is most notable for its exceptional thermal stability, utilizing a PTFE (Teflon) dielectric and a high-temperature FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) jacket. This allows the cable to operate in extreme environments ranging from -55°C to +200°C without compromising electrical performance.
The cable features a solid silver-plated copper-clad steel (SPCCS) center conductor, which provides superior conductivity at microwave frequencies and high tensile strength. To ensure maximum signal integrity, it employs a double-braided silver-plated copper shield. This dual-layer shielding offers superior RF isolation and significantly lower attenuation than standard single-shielded cables. It is a preferred choice for GPS, medical equipment, and internal system links where interference must be eliminated. It is typically terminated with SMA, N-Type, or TNC connectors.
Key Technical Advantages
-
Extreme Temperature Resistance: The PTFE and FEP construction allows for reliable operation in high-heat industrial or aerospace environments where standard PVC cables would melt.
-
Superior Double Shielding: Two layers of silver-plated copper braid provide excellent shielding effectiveness (>60 dB), ensuring minimal signal leakage and high immunity to EMI.
-
High-Frequency Precision: Optimized for performance into the microwave spectrum (up to 8GHz and higher), providing a flat response and low VSWR.
-
Silver-Plated Components: Both the conductor and shields are silver-plated to maximize conductivity via the “skin effect” and provide excellent corrosion resistance.
-
Chemical and Fluid Resistance: The FEP jacket is inert to most chemicals, oils, and solvents, making it ideal for medical, laboratory, and aircraft applications.
