Description
The use of aluminium in the feeder’s outer conductor provides a significant weight advantage—often 20-30% lighter than equivalent copper cables—making it much easier to handle during tower climbs and reducing the structural load on masts. Most modern aluminium feeders utilize a triple-layer construction: a copper-clad aluminium (CCA) inner conductor, a high-expansion foam dielectric, and a solid aluminium tube or corrugated shield.
To prevent the galvanic corrosion typically associated with aluminium, these cables are strictly jacketed with high-density UV-resistant Polyethylene (PE) or Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) materials. They are fully compatible with standard 1/2″ connectors, provided that the connectors are specifically rated for aluminium interfaces to ensure a moisture-tight, PIM-stable connection.
Key Technical Advantages
-
Reduced Total Weight: Eases installation and reduces the mechanical stress on tower mounts and cable trays.
-
Cost-Effective Infrastructure: Aluminium is generally more budget-friendly than copper, providing a lower total cost of ownership for massive network rollouts.
-
High Shielding Effectiveness: The solid aluminium outer conductor provides >120 dB of shielding, ensuring minimal signal leakage and high immunity to external interference.
-
Low Attenuation: Maintains signal integrity over long distances, with loss characteristics very close to those of premium copper feeders.
-
Stable PIM Performance: When used with dedicated aluminium-compatible connectors, these cables provide the low Passive Intermodulation required for high-capacity LTE and 5G networks.
