Description
RG-58 Alloy is a specialized variant of the classic RG-58 cable, designed to offer high-reliability 50 Ohm performance with a focus on weight reduction and cost-efficiency. While maintaining the standard RG-58 form factor, this version utilizes a high-strength Aluminum Alloy braid for shielding instead of traditional tinned copper. This provides excellent protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) while remaining significantly lighter, making it ideal for mobile applications, vehicle-mounted radios, and weight-sensitive aerospace installations.
The cable features a flexible 20 AWG stranded or solid conductor (often tinned copper or copper-clad aluminum) surrounded by a high-grade polyethylene (PE) dielectric. This construction ensures consistent impedance and low signal reflection across common VHF and UHF frequencies. Housed in a flexible, UV-resistant PVC jacket, the RG-58 Alloy cable is easy to route through tight spaces and stands up well to environmental exposure. It is most commonly terminated with BNC, TNC, or PL-259 connectors.
Key Technical Advantages
-
Lightweight Alloy Construction: The aluminum alloy shielding reduces the overall weight of the cable, making it easier to handle and ideal for mobile and portable RF systems.
-
Cost-Effective RF Solution: Provides a budget-friendly alternative for high-volume installations without sacrificing essential signal protection or performance.
-
Flexible and Easy to Install: The high-flexibility jacket and stranded core allow for tight bending radii, perfect for routing through vehicle interiors or equipment racks.
-
Consistent 50 Ohm Impedance: Precision-manufactured to ensure a stable impedance profile, minimizing VSWR and protecting sensitive radio equipment from power reflections.
-
Broad Frequency Utility: Effectively supports signals from DC up to 1GHz, making it a “workhorse” cable for 2-way radios, WLAN, and basic RF testing.
